The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator is also responsible for providing administrative support for the Volunteer Program, which includes email and phone communication and database management.

General Statement:      
The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator is responsible for providing support to the Volunteer Manager to ensure the success of the Phoenix Zoo’s Volunteer Program through development and implementation of training opportunities, coordination of volunteers into specialty service roles, organization of volunteer events, and direct oversight of corporate volunteer groups. The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator is also responsible for providing administrative support for the Volunteer Program, which includes email and phone communication and database management.   
 
Essential Duties:         

  • Provide quality guest service to both internal and external guests by maintaining a WILD (friendly, helpful, positive and professional) working attitude and appearance. 
  • Support the Volunteer Manager in overseeing the Volunteer Program by assisting with recruitment, intake and orientation, retention, daily support, evaluation, and discipline.
  • Ensure high quality communication between the Zoo and all volunteers.
  • Oversee the recruitment, interview, placement, and coordination of volunteers into specialty positions.
  • Provide administrative support to the Volunteer Program through email and phone communication, database management, and generating of reports.
  • Collaborate with the Volunteer Manager to conduct annual and ongoing evaluation of the Volunteer Program.
  • Ensure that corporate volunteers that interface with the Zoo are highly satisfied and represent the Zoo in the highest professional manner.
  • Collaborate with necessary staff to coordinate corporate volunteer groups that work with the Zoo.
  • Collaborate with volunteer management team to develop, organize, and implement volunteer events and training opportunities for both ZooTeen and adult volunteers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience working with volunteers.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to demonstrate confidence and comfort working with adult learners and community partners.
  • A demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise discretion and independent judgment.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-pace and dynamic environment.
  • Possess a positive, enthusiastic attitude.
  • Ability to be team player and demonstrate leadership qualities.
  • Strong oral, written interpersonal communication skills.
  • Possession of valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background check, drug test, DMV check and clear annual TB test.
